Films de Langmuir de polymères
The Langmuir film method is used to study the effect of 2D confinement on polymer blends mixing behavior, to synthesize two-dimensional IPN or to study the structure-conductivity relationship of conducting polymers. The films, with monomolecular thickness and controlled density, are studied at the air-water interface then transferred to solid substrate to obtain polymer nanocoatings.

- The behavior of several 2D polymer blends turned out significantly different from the one in volume. For exemple, by combining a polymer with a hydrophobic character (polybutadiene or PDMS) and a quite hydrophilic polymer (cellulose derivative), miscibility has been evidenced on a range of composition or surface pressure p whereas in 3D, a phase separation occurs for all proportions. The work continues in the framework of the IPNanocoat ANR with the building of p-composition phase diagrams for a large range of polymer couples both experimentally and theoretically .
- The synthesis of 2D semi-IPN and IPN is developed at the air-water interface, by combining for example free radical cross-linking and acetalization. The control of the cross-linking reactions and surface pressure has led to different morphologies and, in some conditions, phase separation is prevented, as in 3D. Polymer nanocoatings, stabilized by cross-linking, are currently developed (ANR IPNanocoat).
- The relationship between structure, morphology and conductivity properties of electronically conducting polymer ultra-thin films formed at the air-water interface is studied. For example, 4 nm-thick highly organized bilayers of poly(3-hexylthiophene) in situ doped have been obtained.
